September
this year I started at a small university in Birmingham where I will be
studying a joint honors degree in History and Theology. I have not moved away
from home to go to university like most people my age do. This was partly due
to financial costs and that I don’t think that I would have integrated into
university life outside of the lecture hall very well. I’m not a party animal
and I enjoy my own space.
I thought I
would take the time to talk about the subjects that I am study for my degree
starting with History; I did not start to show an interest in history until I
was 14 when I was forced to do it as a GCSE. If you were to tell 13 year old
Lauren that she is now study for a degree in History I would have called
bullshit. But, at the start of KS4 education I fell in love with History. I am
hoping to specialize in more ancient / medieval and possibly some early modern
stuff during my degree.
The second
subject I am studying is Theology, Theology coming from the Latin theologia, theology
is study of the concept of God and the ideas and practices surround as God. I
am especially interested in the philosophical arguments surrounding the
existence of God (which I might write a separate post about). Generally I have
always been really interested about the study of religion and the problems
concerning a deity
.
How have
you found university life so far?
My overall
experience of university so far has been a good one; I have made some great
friends and have attended some engaging classes. In addition I have started
reading for my first essay (scary stuff) I’m doing a lot of reading in general. I love
being able to share my passion for two amazing subjects (in my opinion) with
experts in the field and colleagues.
The uni
that I am attending does not have a rampant social/ party scene and so far I
have not attended a university party sorry to disappoint.
What are
you going to do with such a stupid degree?
Well my
friends I plan to complete the necessary qualifications and become a secondary
school teacher, I may as well do something that I am passionate in rather than
wasting my time doing something that is useful but I hate.
I hope to
post as often as I can on this blog in between reading for my degree and I will
hopefully be doing updates during the year for any bored sole who is interested. If you have any questions concerning University just ask!
Always,
Lauren
