Getting Pierced

I have a number of piercings and have been pierced on a number of occasions so thought that I would share some tips for anybody looking to get a piercing for the first time.
This is my daith heart piecing which took
aroung 6 months to heal.

One research the piercing that you actually want: look into what it is like to actually get the piercing, look at photos of the piercing so you have an idea of the placement of the piercing. In addition research into the general healing time of the piercing plus the aftercare that the piercing will require. Also, you might want to look in to the level of pain that you may experience when getting the piecing, remember that pain is subjective though.

Two research the studio/shop that you want to get your piercing at. Go online read reviews, ask people, and look on social media do everything you can to research the place where you are planning on your piercing. You want to make sure that the shop meets the government requirements when it comes to piercing and that their staff are well trained and experienced. This could mean paying slightly more for the piercing but personally I would rather pay more to be pierced at a reputable piercing shop than have a piercing on the cheap and it go wrong.

Three eat before you get pierced; make sure that you eat a meal or a snack at least half an hour before you have your piercing. This is because when you get pierced your blood sugar can drop due to the rush of adrenaline this leaves you prone to fainting. You might even want to take a sugary snack with you to eat straight after you get pierced to raise your blood sugar.

My Tragus and Snug piercings. As you can see
I have a few scars on this ear from previous piercings
this is something that you need to consider.
Four listen to what the piercers say, ask questions and get any advice while you are there. I advise you to listen to the piercer’s opinion because at the end of the day they are professional especially when it comes to jewelry, healing time, cleaning and maybe even placement of the piercing in some instances. It might also be a good idea to ask what size jewelry you are being pierced with as you are often pierced with jewelry that is too big for the healed piercing to allow room for swelling. This means that when you piercing is healed you might have to purchase and change your jewelry, some piercers include a free jewelry change others may require a small fee for the jewelry to be changed. But knowing your jewelry size will be a help.

Piercings can be fun and a wonderful easy way to get a new look  but you often have to consider what impact a piercing can have on your job prospects or even if the piercing leaves a significant scar or not. Always remember that you can take your piercings out, they don’t have to be in your body forever but they might leave a scar.

I hope these tips will be useful to anyone looking to get pierced for the first time. Just remember to take time to decide if the piercing is something you want to commit to and to do your research.

Always,
