Albums that saved my life.

Whether my struggle has been mental or physical I feel that the albums that I have listed below have helped me along the way, sometimes I feel that some of them have been there when I feel that I have nothing else. They really have saved me.  These are in no particular order.

Of Mice and Men- Restoring Force, this album to me is bloody flawless. There is not a single song on it which I am not in love with. I felt that I could identify with the music could describe how I felt at a particular time in my life. I was lucky enough to hear most of this music live earlier this year and I feel that there is nothing quite like a musician or a group of musicians playing their own music to an audience. You can really see how much the songs mean to the audience but also how much the music means to the writers and players.

U2 – Under a blue sky, historically this album speaks volumes, I love that it is a live album.  This album will always remind me of my Dad who used to sing the songs to me as I was growing up. I was recently able to study about the issues in Ireland in the 1920’s and I think the song ‘Sunday bloody Sunday’ especially highlights how history is far more than what we read in text. Volumes such as music and television have also imprinted on our history.

Deaf Havana – Fool and worthless liars, I got into this album when I hated my current situation in education, I used to listen to this while I battled with endless amounts of college work. I felt that the songs summed up what it was life to feel lost and anxious about life.  I have been able to see these guys play live twice; furthermore I have never experienced a more humble set of musicians in my life with such a deep connection to their musical material.

Escape the Fate – Ungrateful, I listened to this album every morning on the way to college for about six weeks. During this time I had hit rock bottom concerning my personal and I felt that my world was falling apart. Now it comforts me and reminds me that no matter how bad shit gets I can ride it.

Paramore  - Riot , Paramore were the first band which I remember falling hard for at the tender age of 13. Their album reminds me of my nostalgic early teenage years. I have seen Paramore play on 3 separate occasions each night has been phenomenal and Hayley Williams the lead singer of this band will forever be my woman crush Wednesday.

Pierce the Veil – Collide with the sky, this album I love more and more each time I listen to it. After a painful chapter in my life I went to see these guys live not really feeling it or wanting to go , I was one of the best nights of my life as for the first time in years I was able to let my hair down and go absolutely crazy. In addition a few of the songs in this album make references to self-harm and self-harm recovery something that I can relate to very deeply. When the band played the song ‘Hold On Till May” I was just overcome with sadness when looking at the girl’s arm in front of me. I was able to see that I was covered in scars and cuts I was able to realize that I was not alone and that someone is dealing with the same shit as me. I am reminded that sometimes I shouldn’t be so caught up in my own problems because there are people out there who are having it worse than me or are struggling as equally.

You Me At Six – Hold me Down, this is another album which I would regard as flawless , it reminds me of my earlier teen years but the songs still speak to me today in my later teenage years. I feel that this record sums up all of the hate and resentment in my life. I have heard You Me At Six play numerous songs from this album on 4 separate occasions and they are just amazing.

For some this list may be long, you may hate the bands which I rave about but these albums really do mean the world to me. They have helped me in many ways which not human could, music is an essential part of my life and I feel that it is honestly something that I could not be without for the good times and the bad. I don’t care if you thing that any of the bands listed above are shit or stupid because these albums have changed my life.

Always
