Recently I
posted about wat it was like to be a short girl at gigs I decided to follow on
with the theme of short girl problems by discussing what it is like to be a
short girl at the supermarket.
First of
all we have the most obvious problem the shelves, oh the shelves most of the
shelves at any typical supermarket tower above my 5’3 stature this makes it
incredibly difficult to reach many shelves. It is very kind when people decide
to help me however I do find it slightly insulting, as a short girl I find
reaching the cereal on the top shelf an Olympic achievement a phenomenon that
needs to be celebrated. If you reach for that cereal box for me you take away
my glory.
A second
problem at the supermarket for me is the trollies especially the deep trollies.
I am fine throwing my stuff into the trolley/shopping kart but getting it out
is another story. Not only are my leg short but so are my arms which means I
can’t reach the bottom of the trolley so it makes reaching for products at the
bottom of the trolley very difficult. This causes me to dive like
some sort of pearl hunter , looking like a complete idiot in the process.
These are
hilarious but real issues that I face during every trip to the supermarket, in addition
to this people seem to think that I am invisible because I sometimes fall below
their eye line. Countless times have I had people walk into me purely due to
the fact that they ‘couldn’t see me’. This could be rudeness however I AM A
REAL PERSON WITH REAL FEELINGS DO NOT TREAT ME LIKE I AM INVISIBLE!
Many of the
issues raised cannot be solved however I reach out to you. Please be sympathetic
to the people of below average height especially at the supermarket.
Always,
Lauren
